Forklift Classifications
The following classes of forklift describe the use and fuel choice of each forklift. Certification is truly required for each and every class of forklift which the operator would be utilizing.
Class 1 - Electric Motor Rider Trucks
These forklifts are available with either pneumatic tires or cushion tires. Pneumatic tires are suggested for outdoor application during dry conditions. The cushion tired models are designed for smooth, indoor surfaces. These are electrically powered vehicles which utilize industrial batteries, which make them desirable in closed locations where air quality is a concern. Travel and hoist functions are controlled by transistor motor controllers. These are versatile units commonly utilized everywhere from the loading dock to the storage facility.
Class 2 - Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks
For the kind of environment where narrow aisles should be negotiated, this particular type of forklift is suitable. They are effective at maximizing the use of storage space. Their unique design makes them ideal where speed is required and for small spaces.
Class 3 - Electric Motor Hand or Hand-Rider Trucks
These are hand-controlled and battery-powered models. Utilizing a steering tiller, the operator could operate the lift while standing in front of the truck. The tiller has controls mounted on top and is moved sideways in order to maneuver the vehicle. The smaller capacity units use industrial batteries.
