There can be a variety of different ways that lower or raise lifts on a forklift: rack and pinion lifts, scissor lifts, screw lifts, telescoping lifts and articulated lifts. Scissor lifts use crisscrossed folding supports with a screw system utilized to draw the members together. Rack and pinion lifts use a pinion, that is a small drive gear, to drive a straight-toothed rack to raise the cargo. The telescoping lift system is made with multiple sections that retract and extend into and out of each other to attain lifting action. Screw lifts use threads to raise the lift. Articulated lifts use a system involving multiple parts that unfold or articulate. An articulated lift example is the "cherry picker."
Forklift Material Handling
There are many reasons to keep up with innovations in material handling processes. Material handling tools and the methods can be used to handle increased geographical coverage, more SKUs, and the need to lower inventories. Machines which are well ahead of the technological curve can help maximize production and increase profitability.
Lift truck Battery & Charging Technology
The latest innovations on electric forklifts have yielded higher capacities and longer run-times than ever before, which makes the choice to convert from the traditional IC forklift over to the improved electric models. Charger and battery combinations are providing much more power for longer periods than older systems were capable of achieving. Improvements in both battery and charger technologies are not only making electric lift trucks more beneficial but they are making it possible to have more environmentally friendly warehouse operations.
These new batteries are known as Li-ion batteries or Lithium-Ion batteries. This technology is still somewhat new, however Li-ion batteries show incredible promise. They are not only smaller but could hold up to six times the charge of conventional lead acid batteries. Li-ion batteries have really low maintenance needs and can maximize opportunity charging through zero memory technology.
